Areas of Interest:

Reservoir Characterization-Unconventional Resources-Seismic Rock Properties-Petrophysics -Rock Physics-Shales.

RESEARCH STATEMENT

In the energy sector, most of the impetus is on the unconventional hydrocarbon reserves as most of the conventional hydrocarbon accumulations have already been explored. The unconventional reservoirs however are tedious and require sophistication in technology and understanding for viable extraction of hydrocarbons from them. Among the unconventionals like coal bed methane (CBM), shale gas, oil shales, tight gas sandstones, gas hydrates etc., my research focuses on the organic-rich shales (ORS). Currently the focus of my research work is on the shales of the Raniganj and Jharia sub-basin, with a thrust on multiphysical characterization of the shales for development of suitable rock physics model of the shales of the area. The multiphysics characterization is based on techniques like acoustic characterisation-which includes benchtop and reservoir temperature pressure tests, optical and x-ray characterization, high pressure tests like MICP with inputs from well logs and other parameters like FE-SEM, well logs etc.
